Five men, enslaved by a vampire pirate and forced to do his bidding, rebelled against their master and earned the wrath of a monster. Now, while plotting to destroy the man who, centuries later, still thinks he owns them, they use their powers to protect other victims.
In a seedy underworld of sex and violence, a serial killer is stalking men and Guy is called upon to find the murderer. Ryan, a professional Dom known as the Beast Tamer, specializes in meting out pleasure and pain to oversized men. While undercover, Guy and the sexy young man with a mysterious past become lovers, but is Ryan the next victim or is he the killer?
The following excerpt from WHIPS AND CHAINS is for readers 18 and over.
While Ryan studied the menu, Guy studied him. The mortal was quite adorable and definitely butch. Guy liked that. He had nothing against effeminate men, but guys like himself with a rougher edge turned him on more.
"Why did you decide to come back to Club Josselin?" Ryan asked.
"I'm renovating my house and had to close off my dungeon."
Ryan stared at him. Not since he'd been human himself had a human made him uncomfortable with a look -- until now. Ryan's eyes weren't angry, accusing or obsessed. They were penetrating, even more so than many of the vampires he'd known.
"Why here?" Ryan pressed.
"Like I said earlier. I've worked out of this club before. I like the atmosphere. The tight security. It lives up to its reputation as one of the best pleasure houses in the country. They're particular about who they let in."
A smile flickered across Ryan's lips, but it didn't reach those intense eyes. "True."
"And you? Why did you choose Club Josselin?"
"The same reasons you mentioned."
Guy picked up the silver fork next to his plate and ran his thumb along its handle. "And your clients? Why do you choose them?"
"That's none of your business."
"I didn't mean to get too personal."
"Yes, you did."
"I didn't mean specific clients. I mean how did you come to specialize in --"
"Big bastards?" Ryan's grin broadened. "The truth is, they choose me. They don't intimidate me and I give them exactly what they want. It's surprising how many men like that enjoy being told what to do, how many of them are expected to be dominant because of how they look. For them it's almost like a curse."
Guy chuckled. "A curse? I've met gentle giants in my day who don't necessarily want to be dominated."
"That's different. You obviously don't understand. Can you imagine being trapped in a body that doesn't reflect your soul? Not everyone wants to be judged on what they appear to be rather than what they are."
Those words struck too close to home.
