Out of emptiness the world appeared. By the will of the Spirit, it grew, oceans dividing land, mountains arising, canyons falling into the sea. Primitive bands united as tribes. Wizards rivaled monarchs for power. Great nations swallowed the weaker. Men and women waged their wars and the rich and powerful lorded over those who struggled. In the midst of chaos, a group of healers became warriors, dedicated to protecting the weak and ravaged, loyal to no monarch or magician, only to the Spirit who created their world. In ancient times, their pale healers' robes were stained with blood and dirt from fields of battle. Black and red. Knights of the Ruby Order. Their black tunic signified the filth of the battlefield. A red circle of thorns surrounding a ruby over the heart served as a reminder of lives lost and saved, that life itself is a jewel to be treasured. Sorrow birthed hope. Need birthed courage. The Knights settled on the eastern most island of Travelle, in a land dubbed Rubyshire. Throughout the world, from the islands of Soth Sea, across the deserts of the Kennas, and over the mountains of Zaltana, their vows guided them to where they were needed most. Thousands of Knights passed through history. These are the stories of some of them.
