    Anh Leod

    Website: www.anhleod.com

Anh--Halloween Then and Now: As a kid I was definitely a trick-or-treater in a variety of costumes, from witch to superhero. I gave up trick-or-treating for years, then a friend who'd just moved to the US was desperate to go when we were in late high school. We dressed up in her native costume and went out. I was so embarrassed when the pants of my costume fell off. Thankfully I was wearing tights underneath! But I'll never forget. Nowadays I spend Halloween passing out candy to local kids while trying to keep my own paws out of it. Yum! The key is to buy candy you don't like, but who can show that kind of self-control? Not me.

    Anh's Featured Book:

    Claudia's Pleasure
    From Ellora's Cave

Can a long-term relationship regain its sizzle?

Claudia and her boyfriend Sam have been together since high school. Real life is setting in as they reach their mid-twenties. She loves him, but the sex isn't what it used to be. Even worse, her gaze is straying to a handsome actor and a gorgeous architect. Los Angeles is full of man-candy ready to share her bed.

Is Sam going to be enough for her, even if he's willing to try anything to get them back on track?

Other Halloween/paranormal themed books by Anh:

  • Lucky Number Seven and Bijou's Bonds are shapeshifter tales.
  • Aphrodite's Necklace is a paranormal.
  • Claudia's Pleasure and Cherokee's Playmates (out Oct. 10th) are specifically set around Halloween.
  • Gunshot Grange over at Cerridwen Press (by alter ego Heather Hiestand) is a contemporary gothic romantic suspense that would be fun to read at Halloween.

    Ann Lory

Ann on Halloween: As a kid I spent Halloween trick or treating. My step-dad participated in the costume creating, face painting, wand waving action. It was a professional sport for my step-dad to see how much candy we could get. I didn't walk from one house to the next...I ran. My step-dad ran along the street beside me. He was like a coach, urging me on, to go faster as he waved and spun his arms. LOL! When my bag looked too full, we dumped it in the bucket in the car and I'd hit it hard again with the sad story of how I got a "late start" in hopes of getting more candy. When my brother and sister were old enough, I was too old to go door to door. I was able to join my dad on the side lines and enjoy their time to hustle, or go to Halloween parties my school would put on.

    Ann's Featured Book:

    Eternal Surrender
    From Loose Id

When Alyssa meets Damian and realizes he's vampire, she doesn't hesitate attempting to put a stake through his heart. But after losing against his supernatural strength, she finds herself a guest in his home. Now she finds herself with a new dilemma: how the hell to resist him. He's sinfully handsome and drives her mad with the urge to pummel him one minute and throw herself at him in the next, but she will remain strong. Vampires killed her family and she will not forget her vow to see them destroyed.

Damian was sent to kill Alyssa, by D'Angel, his maker, but after a glimpse and a taste of the young woman he cannot bring himself to end her life. Instead he brings her under his protection, whether she's willing or not. If she were to face off against D'Angel as she intends, she'd be tortured in the worst ways the twisted D'Angel can think of.

Sparks fly with not only the wicked slash of words and flying fists, but with the heated passion the two try to deny each other. It's only a matter of time before the walls start to tumble and they can no longer resist the urges for on another.

To keep her vow, Alyssa must face the truth: not all vampires are evil. She must put aside her hate and surrender to Damian, for all eternity.

Candace--Halloween As A Kid, In My Neighborhood: When I was a small kid, I had an aunt who used to plan elaborate parties that were the talk of the small Texas town in which we lived. Believe it or not, these were still referred to back then as Halloween 'play parties'. My aunt actually built a fire in a cauldron, decorated her entire house and yard with orange and black paper decorations, made S'mores over open flames and cooked hotdogs with chili. Since we lived in a very rural area, a hayride was usually planned. Scaring each other was the order of the day but costumes were optional. Back then, gory items weren't a Halloween tradition; just the witches, black cats, pumpkins and full harvest moons for decor. I remember eating a lot of those old-fashioned, black and orange wrapped peanut butter-like candies. When we trick-or-treated, handmade items were the most coveted (unlike nowadays, unfortunately). If you could snag a caramel apple or a popcorn ball, you considered yourself well 'treated'. It seemed to me like the goodies were more original or imaginative than the bagged candy now handed out. People took the time to elaborately decorate the stuff they dropped into your pillowcase/treat bag. If you 'did' wear a costume, scarecrows, ghosts, witches, princesses, aliens from other planets and cowboys or cowgirls seemed popular. Garish plastic masks with head elastic were almost always part of store-bought costumes; very little in the way of make up was available unless you stole your mother's.

I think my favorite Halloween television program, as it remains today, was the Great Pumpkin featuring the Charlie Brown characters. I also love to revisit the Disney movie from a few years ago - Hocus Pocus. I'm not particularly fond of the gore now present at some Halloween functions. I don't know what all the gruesome body parts have to do with the season. However, no Halloween would be complete without something vampiric . I think my favorite vampire would have to be Gerard Butler in Dracula 2000 (but then again, Gerard Butler could stand on the television screen for hours, with his thumb in his ear, and I'd watch him).

But if I could do one thing only on Halloween night and was allowed only one decoration, I'd carve a pumpkin and put it on my back porch with a light inside. I'd sit and watch it for the entire evening (okay, maybe I'd enjoy a beverage of my choice while watching the afore mentioned flickering pumpkin. The jack-o-lantern just wouldn't me the only thing 'lit' - if you know what I mean).

    Cornelia Amiri

    Website: http://www.myspace.com/CelticRomanceQueen

Cornelia--Halloween Then and Now: One of my favorite Halloween memories was in Kindergarten – they had us spread chocolate icing on a cookie and then we put candy corn pieces on it for the eyes, nose, and mouth. Then we ate it. I thought it was the greatest thing. I still remember that cookie. Candy Corn is still my favorite Halloween candy. I spend it now by handing out goosebump and similar books to the trick-or –treaters along with Halloween candy like gummy body parts.

    Cornelia's Featured Book:

She lives in a cave under the sea, and he's the only one who can see or hear her.

Margaid's had one of the worse days of her long life. The sea god found her cauldron empty, again. He put her on a final warning. She has to fill her cauldron with human blood, like any worthwhile leanan sidhe, or he'll turn her into a kelpie. What's a leanan sidhe to do?

Cynnara--Halloween Then and Now: My mom loved trick-or-treating, so every year, we'd gear up right after my birthday to decide on costumes for the coming season. My favourite costumes were when I was a Jawa from Star Wars when I was in 4th grade. The year after that, my mom and I came up with this neat alien costume giving me feathered hair, painted face, and a harem like costume. Those are some of my fondest memories.

Nowadays, I spend Halloween preparing for Samhain rituals-- giving thanks for the harvest blessings, saying prayers for those who past away. In fact, in Spirited you get to see a Dumb Supper which I host every other year. This year, I'll be doing it in my mom's honour with her passing in January. I also go out with my nephew trick-or-treating for a period of time before coming home to have the food ready for us to enjoy.

    Treaty of Desire
    From Loose Id

The new treaty between Weres and Fey has ended an uneasy coexistence. While the majority are in favor, there are those who fear corruption by intermingling their magics and their peoples.

Tajas, queen of the Cat-weres, has been selected by the ruler of all Weres to teach the Fey the glamour that allows her people to live amongst humans. With her natural sensuality, she fits right in to the sex-drenched Seelie Court, but her secret -- that she's half-Unseelie -- might jeopardize everything she's working for. Especially when she does the one thing forbidden to her and gives in to her lust for Adrastai.

Adrastai, son of the Seelie King, must teach Tajas to use Fey magic, if she can even access it. To his surprise and hers, she not only can, but their sessions together call forth a powerful sexual bond between them.

Some of the Fey will stop at nothing to put an end to the Treaty and Tajas. To save them both, Adrastai wants to claim her in an arcane sexual ritual. But will Tajas agree to this new treaty of desire?

K.Z.--Halloween Then and Now: Once upon a time, in a simpler and safer world, kids either made their own Halloween costumes or bought cheap, boxed outfits that came via the local five-and-dime store from Japan or Hong Kong. They went trick-or-treating at night, without the hindrance of parents. The magic of jack-o-lanterns glowing in the darkness and the stealthy swirl of autumn leaves held sway in this world, and treats, offered in abundance, never had to be x-rayed for unpleasant surprises.

As I got older, I did my share of trash-can tipping. But I also learned to love the chilling stories of Poe and spooky movies like Dracula. (To this day, Night of the Living Dead gives me the creeps, as does the original, black-and-white version of The Haunting. But I also enjoy The Nightmare Before Christmas.) My restless imagination finally made me resurrect the witches and wizards and vampires I’ve always loved. Today, I try to give them new life in my books.

    K.Z.'s Featured Book:

    BooliciousBoolicious
Available October 17 from Changeling Press

Often, breaking up with a boyfriend is a blessing in disguise. Sometimes, being stuck with crazy relatives is the same thing.

Hannah Blue didn’t think so after she made an ill-advised bet with her Aunt Kate, a bawdy old hippie and self-styled witch. A little too much wine had made Hannah cocky enough to think she could get laid by November 1 and, in so doing, become a hundred dollars richer. But it wasn’t happening; Hannah’s picky about men. As the bet’s deadline draws near, Aunt Kate decides to give her niece a little behind-the-scenes help. She wants Hannah to have a restorative roll in the hay and win that C-note.

But even a weird and wild Halloween swingers’ party doesn’t bring a man Hannah’s way. Frustrated and glum, she decides to boost her spirits by strolling down the streets of her neighborhood and enjoying Trick-or-Treat night. She eventually tags along with a trio of unescorted kids. It’s an enjoyable, innocent diversion that helps Hannah resign herself to being a loser.

Until, at one house, a man in a vampire cape comes flying out the door…and proves the most delectable piece of candy—and the best way to win a bet—Hannah could ever have imagined.

Althea starts dreaming of a handsome man who caters to her every fantasy. Their dreamtime interludes become increasingly hotter. And she wishes that she could meet him in the flesh. Mechele--Halloween Then and Now: My Halloweens as a kid were pretty low key. I grew up in a rural county, and we'd go to a few neighbors' houses for Trick or Treating. I remember a Halloween party at the elementary school where they had grapes as eyeballs, spaghetti as brains, etc. That was fun but they only did it one year. My parents would get excited when we had any Trick or Treaters come. Our best year, we had six. Imagine my suprise when I moved to the suburbs and ran out of candy my first year! LOL. It's quite different here. My favorite thing to do is sit on the stoop and dole out candy to the Trick or Treaters. My previous dog loved Halloween and would sit out with me to greet each kid. It was always funny to hear little ones say, "Doggie." And the dog just ate up the attention. The hubby usually takes the kids and they are on a mission to hit as many houses as he'll take them to.

N.J.--Halloween Then and Now: As a kid, we did the usual trick-or-treating. As an adult, I go out to the local farm and buy a pumpkin and spend an evening carving it. Sometimes we'll get two so both my husband and I can have our own. We also start watching Halloween-type movies on October 1st and keep watching right up until October 31st. We'll save our favorites and watch them after the trick-or-treaters have come and gone. It's fun.

    Eternal Brothers
    From Ellora's Cave

The Dalakis brothers are rich, powerful men, but they have secrets — the kind that men kill to protect. Ex-cop Zane York has watched them for several years and has returned to New Orleans to resume his investigation. He has to know if his suspicions are true — are the Dalakis brothers murderous vampires?

Reporter Sophia Daring has had many tough assignments in her life, but nothing has prepared her for the late-night phone call, which leads her to the cemetery and to the body of a dead woman. The murderer drained all the blood from his victim's body and the clues point straight to the Dalakis family.

The attraction between Zane and Sophia is instantaneous and explosive. But Zane has secrets of his own and questions that need answering. Are the Dalakis family the villains or are they being framed for murder? As Zane and Sophia investigate the grisly string of deaths, they discover that the murderer may not be the family's only enemy…and a secret from the past may bring the deadliest threat yet.

    Finding Passion
    FromWhispers Publishing

Nathan Collins is stunned when he’s served with divorce papers...almost as stunned as he’d been three weeks prior when his wife had suddenly asked him to move out of the house. At the time, Susan had proposed a thirty-day separation followed by marriage counseling. Nathan intends to hold her to that agreement.

He moves from stunned to pissed when Susan attempts to use blackmail as a means to obtain his signature on the papers. Damned if he’ll be blackmailed into anything, especially when he’s innocent of the accusations.

When an unexpected storm and a flooded road strand them together for the weekend, neither suspects that it will lead to a discovery of secret desires and fantasy fulfillment. But will their renewed passion be enough to revive their fledgling marriage?

Wend on Halloween: Growing up in a town of 1200, we had a blast of a time! We would watch some classic horror movies with Christopher Lee, some with Elvira, the mistress of dark, hosting, then we would watch a scream teen movie and head out. Totally freaked because no matter what year the weather was always windy, the night terrifying, and always the boys of our class would lay in ambush to make us scream. After getting a ton of candy, we would go back and munch out as we watched the really gory movies.

    I LOVE HALLOWEEN!!!!!

Favorite Halloween/paranormal books: I love Lori Handeland--fantastic werewolf books.

    Curse of the Scarab King
Coming soon from New Concepts Publishing

Cursed to live forever by a lovesick priest, imprisoned in a sarcophagus for over three thousand years by his vengeful sister, Setti thought things really couldn't get any worse until he is awakened in the 21st Century. Fresh out of his coffin, he is attacked by the Shedty who seek to put him back in. A RA priest uses the sacred Black Book of Fire to send Setti back in time, accidently sending Kate, too. Together, they must stop Setti's enemies from raising the Pharaoh Queen from the dead and make her an immortal in the future. Setti faces another challenge--his growing admiration for Kate. She is quite unlike any woman he has ever known and despite the fact trouble follows her like a plague, he finds she is more than his equal in wit and determination. Honor ingrained in him as tangible as the traditions learned since birth, Setti knows he must do what is right for Egypt and not what his heart wants most--Kate.

Will magic and the Gods set a cursed man free or will his destiny forever keep him from the woman he desires to love for eternity?
